Difference between polystyrene foam sandwich panel and polyurethane sandwich panel

Aug. 01, 2024

Polystyrene foam sandwich panels (hereinafter referred to as EPS sandwich panels) and polyurethane sandwich panels in a number of aspects there are significant

differences, which are mainly reflected in the thermal insulation performance, compressive properties, sound insulation performance, price and application areas.

The following is a detailed analysis of the difference between the two:

First, the thermal insulation performance

  • Polyurethane sandwich panels: excellent thermal insulation performance, because of its low thermal conductivity (about 0.022 w/k-m), can more effectively

isolate the heat transfer. At the same thickness, polyurethane sandwich panels usually have a better thermal insulation effect than EPS sandwich panels.

  • EPS sandwich panel: Although it also has good thermal insulation performance, its thermal conductivity is relatively high

(such as EPS board λ ≈ 0.04 w/k-m, XPS board λ ≈ 0.031 w/k-m), so in the heat preservation effect is slightly inferior to polyurethane sandwich panel.

Second, compressive properties

  • Polyurethane sandwich panel: it has high compression resistance and can withstand large pressure without deformation or damage. This characteristic

makes the polyurethane sandwich panel in the need to withstand heavy pressure in the application of the scene more advantageous.

  • EPS sandwich panels: In contrast, EPS sandwich panels are less compressive and may not be able to withstand the same level of pressure as polyurethane sandwich panels.

Acoustic performance

  • EPS sandwich panel: due to its porous structure and material properties, EPS sandwich panels usually have better sound insulation properties, can effectively absorb and isolate noise.

  • Polyurethane sandwich panels: Although polyurethane sandwich panels also have a certain degree of sound insulation effect, but may be slightly inferior to EPS sandwich panels in comparison.

Price

  • Polyurethane sandwich panels: Due to its excellent performance and higher production costs, the price of polyurethane sandwich panels is usually higher than that of EPS sandwich panels.

  • EPS sandwich panel: as one of the widely used and relatively low-cost sandwich panels on the market, EPS sandwich panel has a certain advantage in price.

Five, application areas

  • Polyurethane sandwich panel: It is mainly used in occasions with high requirements for heat preservation and compression resistance, such as construction projects in cold areas and

large-scale industrial plants, etc. In addition, polyurethane sandwich panel is also widely used in the market with relatively high cost. In addition, polyurethane sandwich panels are also

widely used in production environments with high cleanliness requirements due to their excellent waterproof, moisture-proof and flame retardant properties.

  • EPS sandwich panel: It is widely used in public buildings, roofs and walls of industrial plants and clean plants. Its good thermal insulation properties and low cost make EPS sandwich

panels the preferred material for many construction projects.

In summary, there are significant differences between polystyrene foam sandwich panels and polyurethane sandwich panels in terms of thermal insulation performance, compressive

performance, sound insulation performance, price and application areas. When choosing sandwich panel materials, comprehensive consideration should be made according to specific

needs and actual situation.
